Click here to visit the Sky Sports Living for Sport websiteLooking for ways to use sport as a way to motivate and inspire young people who might be finding school life a little hard?  Then look no further than Sky Sports Living for Sport, an inspiring initiative accessible to all secondary schools via www.skysports.com/livingforsport

Developed in partnership with BSkyB and supported by the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF), Sky Sports Living for Sport targets young people aged 11 to 16, who are at risk of opting out of school life, whether through poor attendance or lack of confidence.

How does it work?

Pupils take part in a whole host of sports activities, arrange sports events, celebrate and achieve together. We have developed a rewards structure so schools can get access to:
  • Visits from athlete mentors (professional sportsmen and women)
  • T-Shirts
  • Competitions

How does it help students?

The initiative helps:
  • Develop team building skills
  • Tackle behavioural problems
  • Improve attendance and punctuality records
  • Raise self-esteem and self-confidence

How does it help teachers?

The Sky Sports Living for Sport initiative provides:
  • Case Studies so teachers can develop a programme that suits pupils’ needs
  • Project planning resources so teachers can:
    – Create their own school project
    – Plan sports activities with their students
    – Track their project’s progress online
    – Help the students organise events
    – Ways to improve attendance and punctuality records for students

Does it work?

The initiative has been running for over 5 years with over 600 schools and 17,000 pupils benefiting from taking part.  Our research shows:
  • Over 70% of young people that have taken part have shown improvements in confidence and self-esteem*
  • 90% of participants have show to sustain these improvements 12 months later*
  • Over 80% of teachers who have taken part said that they young people have benefited*

Every Secondary School can now access Sky Sports Living for Sport through the new website – www.skysports.com/livingforsport.  The website provides schools with all the information they need to complete their project, the opportunity to plan, track and report on their project online as well as case studies from schools that have run the project.
