School and Sport Partnerships' Conference 2008

Youth Sport Trust Chief Executive, Steve GraingerPlaying your Part in the Team

15 – 16 October 2008
The International Centre, Telford

This year’s annual School and Sport Partnerships’ Conference was even bigger and better than ever with a new full two-day programme.

It was supported by DCSF and DCMS, through the new PESSYP strategy and was aimed at representatives from School Sport Partnerships, County Sport Partnerships, National Governing Bodies and Local Education Authorities.

Entitled “Playing your Part in the Team”, the conference focused on the incredible team work it takes to provide PE and sport for young people and explored these essential team roles through the five themes of Curriculum; Leading, Volunteering and Coaching; School to Community; Competition and Infrastructure.

The themes were explored through keynotes, mini-keynotes, workshops and networking.  Delegates also had the opportunity to be updated on all Youth Sport Trust programmes and visited an exhibition featuring the latest innovations in PE and Sport.

Exhibition area

The exhibition was a key focus for the conference with ample time allocated for delegates to move around the stands, which featured displays from NGB’s, national delivery partners and selected Business Honours Club members. There were also a wide range of PE and sports products.
Other areas included in the exhibition were the Gallery of Practice, PESSYP Area and UK School Games Competition Zone.

Once again there was a Partnership Innovations Zone at the conference. This year it was in the main exhibition area. The purpose of this zone was to provide an added opportunity to Partnerships to showcase what they do on a wider scale. There were 20 stands which were available on a first come first served basis. So if you would like to take advantage of this marketing opportunity next year, please contact Petta Naylor on petta@s2fevents.co.uk  for more details or to book your slot.

The Competition Zone was an exciting new development for this year’s conference. Using this year’s UK School Games in Bristol and Bath as the backdrop, a group of sports showcased the cream of the crop of talented young people. Each sport used the conference as an opportunity to show the skill, commitment and competitive edge of their young athletes in what was a dynamic and appealing addition to the programme.
